Dey by Dey Studio is located in New Hill, NC a small town in the country.  It’s a town small enough that people who have lived in Raleigh 12 miles away their entire lives don’t know where it is and may never even have heard of.  The people here are friendly, welcoming and generous to the last. They’ll give you directions, hand you their map, and invite you in for lunch before you head out.  If that’s what they do for a stranger imagine what they do for a friend!

The resident artist, Peggy Dey, has been working for and with animals most of her life and has been attempting to capture a bit of their essence in her artwork for over 30 years.  Her grandparents on her mother’s side were artists and her grandmother on her fathers side was Native American.  Their influences can often be seen in her artwork.

Our studio is crowded with inspiration, namely in the shape of many of the animals collected as strays and rejects over the years, several cats, a couple of dogs, birds, and a few fish tanks of Koi and tropical fish to name a few.  In the basement the “wild cats”  (the ones who won’t come inside that is) share space  with the opossums that decided to move inside after they were released on our 12+ acres  by Wildlife Welfare post recovery and rehabilitation from injuries.  It seems natural here that everyone gets along.  Perhaps a common bond of being misfits and being previously unwanted or shunned helps.

 Every animal is welcome and no one is turned away.  The puppies of last year’s Rat Terrier stray have been placed in good and loving homes and the fur in the air as been reduce—a bit.  Given that we kept one, already had one dog, and we still provide on-site “puppy daycare” for two others, it’s still pretty hairy around here! The studio has been turned upside down with our companion bundles of mischief and each new art piece is generated with a degree of laughter from their nearly constant input.   All of our animal friends remind us that love and acceptance is constant and given without strings.  It is given freely and gratefully. 

Dey by Dey Studio recognizes the bond between animals and people and strives to honor this bond in art and in life on a daily basis.  It is our pleasure and our privilege.
